Swedish cops arrest dozens of protesters after clash during neo-Nazi rally

Swedish policemen had a torrid time controlling demonstrators during a neo-Nazi rally which later turned violent as authorities ended the march early after self-professed National Socialists clashed with anti-fascists and police.

The rally by the Nordic Resistance Movement (NMR) dubbed Revolt Against the Traitors, was met by a large crowd of counter demonstrators who threw fireworks and attempted several times to break police lines.

According to reports, no less than 60 people were arrested by cops during the rally and counterdemonstration in Sweden’s second-largest city of Gothenburg according to police.

A police statement after the rally revealed that at least 60 people were detained and two others were also reportedly injured.

“Stones, bottles and sticks were also thrown at us,” police spokesman Hans Lippens said.

Police had posted flyers before the event warning people not to act in a way reminiscent of German Nazis demonstrations in the 1930s and 1940s but all of that fell on deaf ears.
