Taiwan earthquake: Frantic search for missing persons underway

A frantic search for missing persons following a 6.4 magnitude earthquake which rocked the southern Taiwan city of Tainan collapsing a 17-storey building is underway.

Rescuers are frantically searching the rubble of the high-rise residential building hoping to fish out more bodies from the incident which reports say killed at least 14 people.

Sources say more than 800 soldiers have joined in the rescue effort, with hi-tech equipment and rescue dogs being deployed to fish out 30 people who are still missing.

Taiwan’s President Ma Ying-jeou who visited the scene of the incident has promised an “all-out effort” to rescue people.

The president also said when he arrived in Tainan, that shelters would be set up for those who have lost their homes.
