23-yr-old wife stabs husband to death over phone call

The leadership of the Nigeria Customs Service has been urged by the Commissioner of Police Lagos State Police Command, Imohimi Edgal to deal with any trigger happy officer found culpable in the death of any civilian to serve as a deterrent to others.

The Lagos CP made the call during a courtesy visit on him by the Comptroller of Customs, Federal Operation Unit, Zone A, Ikeja, Comptroller Mohammed Uba.

During the visist, the CP said; “ We (Police) also have problem relating to the use of fire arms. In the Police the use of fire arms is guided by Force Order 236. I am sure the Customs also have such. I did not feel happy dismissing the two policemen who shot at some youths recently but the action was taken in public interest. I believe if the Customs deploy such measures, it will serve as deterrent to would-be culprits.”

The call by Imohimi is coming after two shooting incidents which saw the killing of a bus conductor identified as Toheeb Olayiwola who was in a vehicle loaded with smuggled rice when he was shot dead by men of the Nigerian Customs Service.

In another incident which occurred a day after, a pregnant woman who resides at Iyana Iyesi area of Sango-Ota, Ogun State was hit by a stray bullet fired by a Customs officer while on her way to work.

Reports say the eight-month-old pregnant woman identified as Mrs. Bukola Olugunna who works with the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC), Ota office, was rushing to resume duty when she was shot by Customs officials who were chasing suspected smugglers on Idiroko Road.
