Tammy Abraham scores for Swansea in Watford defeat

Nigerian-born Tammy Abraham scored his second league goal of the season for Swansea City in their 2-1 home defeat to Watford on Saturday.

Richarlyson struck in the 90th minute for Watford as they survived Abraham’s 56th-minute equaliser to Andre Gray’s 13th-minute opener to claim a dramatic win at the Liberty Stadium.

“We knew it wasn’t good enough in the first half,” Abraham said of his goal after the game.

“We made changes and had to come alive. We got back into the game and we conceded in the last minute which is a big downer for us.

“We thought we could grab the win and unfortunatly we lost the ball on the counter attack.

“We know we are a better side than we are showing. We’ve got to go and fight for the win at West Ham.”

The 19-year old had been over the news before the weekend as the Nigeria Football Federation made a publicity mess in their bid to have the teenager agree to play for the Super Eagles.

Photos of a meeting involving NFF President, Amaju Pinnick and the striker had gone viral on Thursday, with Pinnick saying that “talks (about Abraham playing for Nigeria) are at an appreciable level now and all is looking good.”

But Abraham, who has featured for England at the U-18, U-19 and at the U-21 levels, later announced his international allegiance to England in a statement to clarify the confusion that followed in the media.

“I have informed The [English] FA that I remain available for selection for England,” the statement read.
