Tax evaders’ property: Expert warns FIRS not to be draconian

Published

on

Against the backdrop of threat by the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) to sell the property of tax evaders in the country, the agency has been urged not to be draconian in its approach.

According to the Chairman, HOB Estates Limited, Olusegun Bamgbade, if FIRS embarked on sale of tax evaders’ property, it would spend over half of its revenues on litigations.

In an exclusive interview with New Telegraph yesterday, Bamgbade advised FIRS to make tax payment easy for the people in its approach. Rather than go draconian, he advised FIRS to make tax payments friendly enough to encourage tax payers, noting that tax in Nigeria was obnoxiously high.
