A 32-year-old taxi driver, Fred Johnson, who allegedly beat up an Assistant Commissioner of Police, on Tuesday appeared in a Wuse Zone II Chief Magistrates’ Court.

It was gathered that the Police charged Johnson, who lives in Angwuan Juli Mararaba Kam Bia Ligia, Nasarawa State after the prosecutor, Mr. Alaba Ajayi, told the court that the case was reported at the Wuse Police Station on March 23.

Ajayi also alleged that the defendant drove recklessly and damaged a Samsung phone valued at N220,000 and an Infinix phone worth N100,000 belonging to the Assistant Commissioner of Police serving in Abuja before beating him up.

The defendant however pleaded not guilty to the charge and was admitted to bail in the sum of 50,000 by Chief Magistrate Egbe Raphael.

The magistrate adjourned the case until April 26 for hearing.
