Team Nigeria through to 4x100m final

There seems to be a light at the end of the tunnel for Team Nigeria as Blessing Okagbare anchored the women’s 4×100 relay team to the final on Thursday.

Gloria Asumnu, Blessing Okagbare, Jennifer Madu and Agnes Osazuwa finished second behind Germany with a season’s best of 42.55secs to remain the only ‪‎African qualifier to the women’s 4X100m Final at Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

The Germans won the heat in 42.18secs while Trinidad and Tobago finished third with a time of 42.62secs with the race favourite and record holders, USA, messing up their baton exchange on the second to third leg when Allyson Felix experienced technical problems during her exchange to English Gardner. They however will get a second chance to defend their Olympic Games crown. The team protested that Felix was impeded by the Brazilian athlete, which resulted in a poor baton exchange to Gardner.

Meanwhile, one of the quartets that qualified Nigeria for the final, Agnes Osazuwa, has said, “We are happy to have made it to the final, but the hardwork continues and we want our fans to continue praying for us while we put in our best on the track,” she said.

The team will be competing in the early hour of Saturday for a place on the podium.
