Team Nigeria beat Team World as Yobo bows out

It was a great atmosphere of joy and excitement on Friday at the 10,000 seated Adokiye Aimesiamaka Stadium in Port Harcourt with Team Nigeria defeating Team World 5-4 as former Nigeria captain Joseph Yobo bows out with a testimonial match.

“I am privileged to be the first Nigerian player to make FIFA’s exclusive Century Club. I feel so glad to have reached that milestone for my country,”Yobo said.

“The younger ones should give the national team all their best.

“It is a privilege to be deemed worthy to wear the national colours in a country of over 170 million people.”

“I have a strong belief that this generation will even be greater given the abundance of young talented players coming through the ranks and the youth teams.

“I am happy the NFF has paid enough attention to the age-group teams. That is the way to go. There will never be shortage of talents. Watch out for the Super Eagles in future. A solid foundation is being laid,” he added.

Emmanuel Emenike snatched a hat-trick for Team Nigeria, who lined up Vincent Enyeama, Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha, Nwankwo Kanu, Ahmed Musa and Efe Ambrose.

Former Manchester United manager David Moyes, who made Joseph Yobo his first signing at Everton, was in charge of Team World, who paraded the likes of Samuel Eto’o and Ghana stars Stephen Appiah and Sulley Muntari.

Thirty five-year-old former Everton and Fenerbache defender Yobo featured at three World Cups and six Africa Cup of Nations, leading Nigeria to win a third Nations Cup three years ago in South Africa.

He won 100 caps for Nigeria.
