Teebillz made me return home to pursue my music career- Tiwa Savage
Less than two weeks after, Mavin Records singing sensation Tiwatope Savage officially singed the dotted lines for an international deal with Jay Z’s Roc Nation, the mother of one has credited her ex-hubby, Teebillz, on her profile displayed on her label’s website, for making her return home to pursue her musical career which turned out to be a good move eventually.
Tiwa who is the latest act on the Roc Nation platform which has offices in London, New York and Los Angeles and is home to international artistes like Big Sean, DJ Khaled and Rihanna among others, noted in the profile that she thought coming back home to Nigeria was a bit of a step backwards but Teebillz was adamant that the move back home will pave a way for her in music.
“You’re writing songs, you’re writing your experiences and then you’re giving them to somebody else. It never felt quite right; it was something I always wanted. I write these songs, I want to sing it and perform it the way I want to do it because it was something I loved through.”
“I met Tunji (Teebillz) and he told me about the growing Afrobeats scene back home in Nigeria. He thought I was wasting my talents being a songwriter & a back-up singer and pushed me to move back to Africa. At first I thought it was a bit of a step backwards but he was adamant that this was my future. He knew it was what would set me apart from the rest.”
