A suspected Boko Haram suicide bomber, Friday, attacked a busy market in Gombi, Adamawa State, killing at least ten people and injuring about 25 others.

According to reports, a teenage suicide bomber detonated an explosive device at Kazuwar Buhu Friday afternoon.

Gombi is one of the towns in Adamawa State that were previously occupied by the Boko Haram insurgents.

A Red Cross official, Maikano Abdullahi, said eight persons were confirmed dead, while 25 others were injured. However, a trader in the market, Adamu Gombi, said he saw about ten corpses, adding that those injured have been evacuated to hospitals.

The Adamawa State Police Command, through its Public Relations Officer, Othman Abubakar, confirmed the attack. He was however silent on the casualty figure.

Speaking on the attack, Ahmed Sajoh, the state commissioner of Information, said the attack was unfortunate but called on residents to remain calm.

“It’s unfortunate, but security operatives are on top of the situation, people should be vigilant. The state government will foot the medical bills of the affected victims,” Sajoh said.
