Tenant arrested as landlord dies moments after disagreement

There was pandemonium and disarray at Chris Matthew Street, in the Okokomaiko area of Lagos State when a landlord identified as Abiodun Bolarinwa slumped and died moments after a disagreement with his tenant Shadrack Enim.

Though the cause of the quarrel between the landlord and tenant was not ascertained as at the time of filing this report, both men were said to have been involved in a hot exchange of words with the pair reported to have threatened each other.

However, the landlord died moments after the disagreement and the tenant was immediately handed over to the police by other tenants who alleged that he had a hand in his death.

The incident was confirmed by CSP Chike Oti, the state Police Public Relations Officer, who said findings into the matter were ongoing.

CSP Oti said; “The story is confirmed. The landlord and the tenant had a misunderstanding that degenerated into a verbal abuse on Saturday, around 6.20pm.

“According to the report from the division, there was no physical contact. The landlord, Mr Abiodun Bolarinwa, slumped and died. The corpse has been taken to a mortuary for autopsy. The tenant is in custody pending the conclusion of investigations.”
