Tension as militants kill 2 soldiers, 5 policemen in Ikorodu

At least two soldiers and five policemen are reported dead after a gun battle with militants on Saturday night.

The incident reportedly took place at Woodland Estate, in Ishawo, Ikorodu area of Lagos state.

The area had been notorious in the past as a hideout for militants, pipeline vandals and kidnappers until a joint team of military and other security agencies raided it and drove them out in 2016.

However residents had sometime ago raised the alarm that the criminals were returning to the area.

They had lamented that they now live in fear following the return of the militants who are terrorising people in the area.

The militants were chased out of the area in August last year following bloody clashes in the community which left scores of people dead.

In the aftermath, government drafted in a joint military taskforce in the area.

With the latest incidence security agencies are said to have reinforced and stormed the area.

The Inspector-General of Police, Mr Idris Ibrahim, on August 4, 2016 visited Isawo creeks in Ikorodu neighbourhood over the activities of the militants.

Also, recently, Director, Defence Information, Brig. Gen. Rabe Abubakar, said the military will soon commence another action on creeks in Lagos and Ogun states.

According to him, the military would not leave the creeks to the criminals, even as he urged Nigerians to support them with timely information.

Abubakar noted that areas identified to be dominated by criminal gangs were under military watch.

So militants want to ruin Lagos again. Why can’t they maintain their activities in their own region?

The military needs to commence operations in these areas Now and not soon before it gets worst. Proactiveness is the key and not reactiveness.

The government should deploy men of the Nigerian army to the location, the militants won’t dare return to the location

The security in Lagos state is better than other states, how possibly can militants engage the policemen, leaving five dead. I’m sure the state government will fish all of them out and deal with them very soon!

I’m not sure the people are militants, they must be Biko Haram members who are trying to invade Lagos state to cause more problems.
