Tension swells as Trump rejects proposal to reopen govt after shutdown

Amid swelling criticism, controversial US President, Donald Trump has revealed that he disagreed with Republican Senator Lindsey Graham’s proposal to reopen the government for three weeks.

Trump’s rejection of the proposal from a Republican ally in the Senate which could have temporarily reopened closed parts of the government comes after a standoff over funding for a border wall.

According to Graham, if talks with Trump failed, then the President could go ahead and declare a national emergency to bypass Congress and get money for the controversial wall.

Last week, Trump threatened to declare a state of emergency after his failure to get funding for his promised border wall.

Trump issued the threat moments before flying to the Texas border with Mexico to try to bolster his case that the country is facing a crisis which can only be solved by spending billions of dollars to construct a wall.
