The probes – a necessary evil

By Eze Chukwuemeka Ejike …
The scale of clear naked looting in the last administration reached a fever pitch that it could only be compared to the brazen thievery of Zaire’s Mobuto. Stories abound of raw cash scurried in huge Ghana must go bags and kept in holes within compounds. We also heard of officials carrying raw cash on board planes enroute the middle eastern luxury enclave of Dubai.
This thievery cascaded from the very top down to local government officials.
Institutions were weakened by an imbecilic leadership which allowed even the most prudent official join the bandwagon. The budget deficit grew, the army suffered, education suffered and the only people who gained were the praise singers, barely literate raccoons who had to be feted and curried for their continued support of the leprous administration of Jonathan.
Overnight we began to see ethnic warlords becoming billionaires via illegal contracts to amongst others protect pipelines, a role constitutionally preserved for the navy and other constituted authorities.
We saw pastors owning private jets and leasing them out to officials to procure second graded arms for the army and when the soldiers mutinied, they were sentenced to death. The scope of corruption was unimaginable and Nigeria lost face in the international community.
We were being ruled by a simpleton, a fedora cap wearing weakling who slept while his empire burned. Thankfully, Nigerians rallied enmasse and swept away this rubbish and his cohorts. Sweeping his entourage of rogues to the dustbin of history and we will definitely not miss him especially his overweight sorry excuse of a wife who amused us with amateurish attempt at being the mother of the nation.
The Buhari Government has taken the right step. The probes must be far reaching and comprehensive. No stone must be left unturned in getting our monies returned. With the drop in revenues occasioned by drop in oil prices, we need all the funds that we can lay our hands on to rebuild our infrastructure and put the economy back on track.
There should be no sacred cows and the title of ex-president should not deter scrutiny. In fact there must be a policy of executive obligation with the bulk stopping at the table of the chief executive.

What this means is that even if the ex-president is not personally involved in all these thievery, or indicted he should still be punished for leading such a gang that has nearly brought us to our knees. He should be tried for the death of all the soldiers who died using inferior weapons he and his NSA brought from rogue countries, he should be tried for the subsidy fraud which has seen us lose trillions of dollars to his thieving cousins.
I am in support of the probes and my fear is that it may not get as far reaching as possible especially with the powerful political forces who came together to put this government in place and who would have most likely been enmeshed in some of these nefarious acts.
My thinking is that Buhari should look at just one term hence giving himself a very strong platform to clean the stables and reposition us while making sure none of these sons of bastards either themselves or through their leprous children ever see the light of freedom to think of coming to power again.
