The veteran actor who had a well-publicized battle with Leukemia that nearly took his life until he was flown abroad for surgery never fails to grab the headlines.

Many had thought that Sadiq would quit moviedom following his battle with the disease in 2017 until the intervention of Josephine Odumakin and billionaire philanthropist, Femi Otedola who assisted with medicare.

However, Celebrity Gist can confirm that Sadiq Daba, a former broadcaster and award-winning actor who came into acting prominence after starring in ‘Cockcrow at Dawn’ in the late 1970s is set to return to the screens in Nvivo TV’s film, ‘Seven’.

Njideka Akunyili-Crosby, daughter of the late Dora Akunyili, former Director-General of the National Agency for Food Administration and Control (NAFDAC), made the front page of newspapers in the United States for most of the week.

Njideka hugged the headlines following a visit to her studio by the former US First Lady. It was Michelle Obama who came to personally see her (Njideka’s) vibrant paintings which close watchers say weaves together personal and cultural narratives drawn from her experience.

The visit by Michelle was posted on Instagram by Njideka’s equally famous sister, Chidiogo Akunyili, who shared photos of Mrs Obama hugging Njideka with the tag: “So this just happened! Casual day in the Akunyili Crosby family! When the Michelle Obama pays a visit to your studio!  Me to my sister, “if it could come up, make sure to tell her about the book.”

Nigerian broadcaster, music critic and the first band manager of the late Fela Anikulapo-Kuti has opened up on his thoughts concerning the musical strides of his grandson Damini Ogulu popularly known as Burna Boy.

According to him, he did not envisage that Burna Boy would be a big act but he, however, said that he thought his grandson was going to go very far because of the eclectic and elevated nature of his music.

He is also upbeat that Burna Boy will win in the Best World Music category of the 2020 Grammy Awards because his music is stronger (than the music of others) and his image is bigger than other nominees in the category including A-list acts like Angelique Kidjo, Altin Gün, Bokanté & Metropole Orkest, and Nathalie Joachim and Spektral Quartet.

We gather that Zakiyya the Founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Women, Youth and Children Improvement Support Initiative, WYCISI, based in Katsina, the state’s capital, has empowered scores of widows in the state, through an empowerment programme.

Reports say Zakiyya is greatly concerned at the plight of widows, especially in Katsina State who have been denied access to their late husband’s property and, at times, even their own children.

Reports say the Davido Music Worldwide (DMW) founder’s new album hit a staggering number of 87million streams as at 5 am hours after it was released and also broke into the charts of 38 countries according to Apple Music.

Ace broadcaster, Bisi Olatilo wowed many at his the 3-in-1 multiple show staged in Lagos which was anchored by equally versatile Masters of Ceremonies, Soni Irabor and Yemi Sodimu.

Reports say many personalities from different walks of life gathered to celebrate the Igbajo, Osun-State born Olatilo who was marking the 20-years anniversary of the Bisi Olatilo Show; the official launch of his book and the launch of BISCON Television.

Sultry Nollywood actress Halima Abubakar is in a swell mood again two years after removing fibroid fibrosis from her uterus following an operation at an Indian hospital.

The 34-year-old actress who recently revealed that her father subjected her to virginity test in her teenage years, has informed on her Instagram page that she is expecting a baby but didn’t reveal who the father of the unborn baby is.

Halima started her acting career in 2001 with a minor role in the flick titled ‘Rejected’ but late bagged her first lead role in the movie ‘Gangster Paradise’, which opened the door for her to feature in other films such as ‘Slip of Fate’, ‘Secret Shadows’, ‘Area Mama’ and ‘Men in Love’ among others.

A new monarch is set to be formally installed in the Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State by Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.

We can reveal that the new monarch who will formally receive his staff of office from Governor Akeredolu is none other than Former National Vice President of Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Prince Oluwarotimi Obamuwagun.

Reports say Obamuwagun defeated four other contestants to emerge as the Olumoru of Imoru, the traditional ruler of the town.

The Chairman of the Coronation Committee, Engineer Funsho Kupolokun, a former Group Managing Director of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), has also revealed that adequate arrangements have been concluded to host the coronation on December 21.

Veteran TV comedian, Pa Sunday Omobolanle, popularly called Papi Luwe (or Aluwe) in the now rested Ojo Ladipo Theatre series has been honoured for his contributions to the comedy industry.

Celebrity Gist can reveal that the actor was recently inducted into the Naija FM Hall of Fame at this year’s Naija FM’s Comedy Jam and Award Night staged at the Eko Hotels, in Lagos recently.

The honour bestowed on the seasoned thespian makes him the 8th comedian to have received the prestigious plaque since the maiden edition won in 2012 by ace stand-up comedian Ali Baba.
