Inaccurate data, government interference affects power supply - GenCos

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has welcomed President Muhammadu Buhari’s allegation against former president Olusegun Obasanjo that about $16 billion was misappropriated in the name of power development.

Buhari had while receiving a delegation of Buhari Support Organisation (BSO) at the Presidential Villa on Tuesday, made the inference.

The president said, “one of the former Heads of State between that time was bragging that he spent more than 15 billion American dollars, not Naira, on power. Where is the power? Where is the power? And now we have to pay the debts.”

Reacting to the development via its twitter handle, SERAP said, “This is a very positive development, something which SERAP has been calling for since 2016. We hope that @MBuhari @ProfOsinbajo will follow this to a logical conclusion, including by ensuring that whoever is responsible is brought to justice & securing full recovery of the $16bn.”

Obasanjo has also reacted to Buhari’s claim, dismissing it as ignorant and insisting that there were no questions to answer.
