Appeal Court judgement against set precedents, Jubrin reacts to rerun order

House of Representatives member, Abdulmumin Jibrin, may have gotten himself in trouble again with his colleagues.

Jibrin only just recently returned from a 180-day suspension which was slammed on him for exposing an alleged budget padding scam in the House among some principal members.

This time around, Jibrin who is from Kano State, has been referred to the Ethics and Privileges committee of the House over his comments concerning the joint session held by both chambers of the National Assembly on Tuesday.

The federal legislators after the session had come out with resolutions carpeting the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, and called on him to take steps to remedy the situation or they would Use their powers against him, a threat that has been interpreted by many Nigerians as meaning an impeachment move against the president.

However, Jibrin In a statement on behalf of the Parliamentary Support Group condemned the resolution of the joint Assembly, insinuating that it is a plot by the Senate President to use the National Assembly to solve a personal issue.

When the House resumed plenary on Wednesday, Jibrin was accused of a breach of privilege by Sunday Karimi (Kogi, PDP) who drew the attention of the House to the statement by Jibrin.

He said there was need to call Mr Jibrin to order because he had turned the House “upside down.”

According to him, the account given by his colleague to the media was incorrect.

Speaking on the matter, Speaker Yakubu Dogara who referred it to the Ethics and Privileges Committee, condemned the action of the Kano lawmaker saying, “I have a problem with members who don’t come for sitting and immediately approaching the press when a decision is taken”.

“We shouldn’t mislead the public, it is very unfortunate,” the speaker said.
