Six Nigerian soldiers injured in clash with Boko Haram

Three soldiers have been killed by unknown gunmen said to be in military uniform, at Obonoma community in Akuku-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State.

It was gathered that the gunmen invaded the Samson Jack military checkpoint in the community around 8pm on Sunday and opened fire on the soldiers while several others were injured.

Speaking with journalists on Sunday a source said:

“The incident happened yesterday (Saturday) night and I gathered that some people in the area were living in fear because of the possibility of reprisal. The criminals, I gathered, were in military uniform.

“They came on two motorcycles and when they got close to the military checkpoint, known as the Samson Jack military checkpoint, they opened fire on the soldiers there. It was something that was unexpected.”

The Amananyabo of Abonnema, King Disrael Bob-Manuel, who condemned the attack on the soldiers described his people as peace-loving and said such action could not have been instigated by his people.

High Chief Phillip Agu, Chairman, Obonoma Council of Chiefs urged the 6 Division of the Nigerian Army to call its men to order, as some soldiers were said to have unleashed chaos on the community.
