TIANJIN OPEN: Sharapova on course for first title since return from ban

Maria Sharapova has made it to the semifinals of ongoing Tianjin Open after beating Stefanie Voegele to remain on course for a first title since returning from a doping ban.

The Russian tennis superstar took one hour and five minutes to beat Voegele, ranked 196th in the world, 6-3 6-1 in China.

Sharapova, who returned from a 15-month ban in April, has yet to drop a set in Tianjin, proving herself to be the tournament’s favourite.

The world no. 86 will face either Sara Sorribes Tormo or third seed Peng Shuai in the last 4.
