Tight security, as APC chiefs storm Ondo for Akeredolu's swearing-in

The city of Akure, capital of Ondo State has been placed under tight security as chieftains of the ruling APC are expected to storm the town for the swearing-in of Rotimi Akeredolu as the new governor today (Friday)

Akeredolu, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) emerged winner of the November 26 governorship election in the state beating two major opponents, Eyitayo Jegede of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and Olusola Oke of the Alliance for Democracy (AD), to clinch victory.

National chairman of the party, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun is expected to lead other chieftains of the party to Akure to usher Akeredolu into office as the next governor of Ondo state.

There are also speculations with many party loyalists looking forward to seeing one of the party’s national leaders and former governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the event.

Other governors on the party’s platform, especially those in the south west including, Lagos, Osun, Ogun and Oyo states are also expected to make appearances.

Already, commissioner of police in the state, Hilda Harrison told newsmen that the force had made plans to draft in officials from the neighbouring states of Ekiti and Osun to strengthen security during the swearing-in ceremony of Akeredolu.

Harison, said in Akure that the command was prepared to provide adequate security for the inauguration ceremony, hence the plan to draw from other states to complement the efforts already in place by her command.
