The US secretary of state, Rex Tillerson has revealed in a meeting with President Xi Jinping of China that America has always opened channels of communication with North Korea and is “probing” whether the Pyongyang government is in tune with giving up its continued missile activities.

Reports say Tillerson’s discussion with President Jinping alongside China’s top diplomats centred on the nuclear crisis and preparations for President Donald Trump’s visit to Beijing in November.

“We are probing, so stay tuned,” Tillerson said.

“We ask: Would you like talk?

“We’re not in a dark situation, a blackout; we have a couple, three channels open to Pyongyang.”

Tillerson hopes to convince President Jinping to look into an economic squeeze of North Korea as it hopes it will compel the reclusive country’s retreat from nuclear arms and missile programmes.

24-hours ago, China tightened its noose on sanctions imposed on North Korea after ordering businesses owned by the pariah nation led by Kim Jong-Un to close by January.

China’s commerce ministry said on Thursday that companies, including joint ventures with Chinese firms, have 120 days to close from the date the UN resolution was adopted on September 11.
