Tinubu cancels Danfulani’s appointment as head of solid minerals agency, retains Fatima Shinkafi
President Bola Tinubu has cancelled the appointment of Yazid Danfulani as the Executive Secretary of the Solid Minerals Development Fund/Presidential Artisanal Gold Mining Initiative (SMDF/PAGM).
The president had earlier appointed Danfulani and other individuals as heads of federal government’s agencies.
He also appointed a visiting professor in the National Universities Commission (NUC), Prof. Abdullahi Ribadu. as the commission’s Executive Secretary and Prof. Salihu Shehu as Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC).
The Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to the President, Bayo Onanuga, in a statement issued on Friday night said his principal cancelled Danfulani’s appointment because there was no vacancy in the SMDF/PAGM.
He added that President Tinubu renewed Fatima Shinkafi’s appointment as the agency’s Executive Secretary.

Shinkafi was first appointed into the position by former President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019.
The statement read:
“The President also approved the renewal of the appointment of Fatima Umaru Shinkafi as the executive secretary of the Solid Minerals Development Fund/Presidential Artisanal Gold Mining Initiative (SMDF/PAGMI).
“She was first appointed to the job by President Buhari and is said to be one of the driving forces behind the changes in the solid mineral sector.
“The earlier announcement about the appointment of Yazid Shehu Umar Danfulani as the Executive Secretary of the SMDF/PAGMI has been cancelled as there is no vacancy in the agency. ”
