Tinubu favours north in security appointments —Presidency

The Nigerian Presidency has debunked insinuations that President Bola Tinubu favours the Soutt-West while making appointments into the various security positions in the Nigerian Armed Forces.

The insinuations came following the appointment of a Yoruba man, Maj. Gen. Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede as the acting Chief of Staff of the Nigerian Army in the absence of incumbent Army chief, Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, another Yoruba man who is currently undergoing treatment abroad.

In the heat of arguments emanating from the appointment, newly appointed Special Adviser on Public Communication and Orientation to President Tinubu,
Sunday Dare, took to his official X handle, @sundaydaresd, on Saturday, to say Tinubu does not favour the South-West in making security appointments.

In a pictorial chart he put up, Dare showed that contrary to the popular beliefs, the North has been the greatest beneficiaries of Tinubu’s appointments.

According to the table, the SA confirmed that out of the 22 security agencies appointments made by President Tinubu, the North-West had the highest number of current security chiefs with eight slots, while the South-West had five heads of security agencies with North-Central with four appointees.

The North-East accounts for three security chiefs while the South-South and South-East have the least number of people at the helm of the country’s security agencies, with one appointee each.

Dare further emphasised that the diversity of these appointments illustrates President Tinubu’s commitment to inclusivity and national unity.

Captioning his post, ‘Facts don’t lie,’ the former minister wrote:

“Below we see laid bare the facts about the regional outlook of President Tinubu’s appointments within 20 security agencies. The label of him favouring Yorubas in the Security set-up does not fit. Nigeria we hail thee!”
