Tinubu orders FRSC to strengthen measures against tanker explosions
President Bola Tinubu has directed the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and other traffic enforcement agencies to implement strict measures to curb the alarming rise in fuel tanker explosions across the country.
The directive followed another tragic incident on Saturday at the Ugwu-Onyeama section of the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway, where a petrol-laden tanker exploded, leaving a devastating trail of destruction.
The Director of the Enugu State Fire Service Okwudili Ohaa, confirmed that the inferno which raged for over an hour, claimed several lives and destroyed eight vehicles.
In a statement issued on Sunday, by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the president extended his condolences to the grieving families, prayed for the repose of the departed souls and a speedy recovery for those injured.

“President Tinubu expresses his deep sympathies to the families of the victims and prays for healing for those undergoing medical care,” the statement read.
The president also cautioned road users, particularly fuel tanker operators and urged them to prioritize safety measures to prevent further tragedies.
“The President calls for caution and adherence to safety measures among road users, particularly fuel tanker operators.
“Furthermore, he directs agencies in charge of enforcing traffic rules to implement measures to prevent recurring fuel tanker explosions nationwide,” the statement added
