Tinubu says Saraki, other political prostitutes, robbed Nigeria of vibrant Senate president

‘Give your Bourdillon house for cattle colony’! Tinubu, Afenifere in war of words

A leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Bola Tinubu, on Saturday regretted how political prostitutes and robbers denied Nigeria the opportunity of having a more effective Senate president.

Though the former Lagos State governor did not mention who these political prostitutes and robbers were, it was however apparent that he was referring to Senate President Bukola Saraki and those who aided him to emerge Senate president in 2015 against the desire of the leaders of the APC.

Recall that Saraki, a former APC senator, had emerged as Senate president in a manner some commentators described as political coup.

While senators of his former party were said to be in a meeting somewhere with President Muhammadu Buhari, Saraki in what appeared an arrangement with senators of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), now his new party, was elected Senate president. This position he had held unto and maintained despite clear attempts by the APC and the Presidency to unseat him through the court and other means.

Ruing that development at the Senate in 2015, which has continued to hurt the ruling party, Tinubu said he and the APC feel no sorry for their preference for the Senate Leader, Ahmed Lawan from Yobe State, occupying the position currently being occupied by Saraki.

He stated this at the maiden Abiola Ajimobi Roundtable, put together as part of the activities marking the 69th birthday of the Oyo State governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi.

“Senator Lawan, thank you very much. You are a great example of a very consistent and intellectually resourceful leader that we have in this country. We saw in him, these leadership traits and the qualities we wanted in the senate president. We know you are qualified and competent to be, that you would have led the most important arm of our government more effectively but the political prostitutes and their robbers and their collaborators denied you of it because of selfishness and selfish aggrandizement,” Tinubu said.

Tinubu in his speech also applauded Ajimobi for his good governance, which according to him has changed the fortunes of the state in the last seven years.

The Lagos politician, who many describe as a King Maker, added that his success would have been incomplete without a worthy successor. He hailed his choice in Adebayo Adelabu, whom he stressed would build on his exploits.
