Tinubu sets up committee to tackle food crisis

President Bola Tinubu set up a committee to address the food crisis in the country.
The committee, the Presidential Food Systems Coordination Unit (PFSCU) is expected to find a solution to the food crisis and the rising cost of food items in the country.
The PFSCU will also coordinate all agricultural activities in Nigeria.
It is headed by Vice President Kashim Shettima with some state governors, representatives of local governments, development partners, and other critical stakeholders as members.
Shettima, who inaugurated the unit on behalf of the president at the State House, Abuja, on Friday, lamented that Nigeria was facing a rare food security crisis that urgently requires the ideas and resources of stakeholders.

He said: “The nation is facing a rare food security crisis and the sooner we come to terms with the reality, the better.
“Food insecurity endangers the very basis of our democratic experiment and this is why all hands have to be on deck.
“We are in a food security crisis but it also allows us to re-engineer and reposition the nation on a firmer footing.”
Many Nigerians protested the rising cost of food and other items in the country early this year.
The protests which started in Niger State gradually spread to Ogun, Oyo, and some parts of Lagos State before the governments came up with measures to address the problem and prevent the breakdown of law and order.
