Fuel Scarcity: Kachikwu’s excuse unacceptable –Tinubu

By Joseph Edgar . . .

This Kachikwu who is now the Petroleum Minister is a very funny man. He came out to say he was not a magician and as such, we should continue in this unacceptable situation till May.

This to say the least is the most arrogant statement since the David Mark legendary ‘phone is not for the poor’ statement, the arrogance of it all cannot be mistaken and it’s condescending nature reminds me of bile.

That the Asiwaju came out firing from all angles was not a surprise. For any leader worth his salt is expected to come out and castigate such arrant nonsense. The Asiwaju stopped short of asking this person to resign his position since by his own admission what we needed was magic and since he was not a magician, he had to step down for us to look for a magician who will deliver us.

This has always been my problem with our so called leaders. They only focus on the benefits that come with public office but not the work that. Ibe as a consummate politician should have made this statement at his Senate screening and let us decide if we would be able to wait as long as he is saying now or not. But instead, he kept mute, promised us heaven and got the job only to now proclaim his inability at magic.

This to me is enough to ask for his recall if he was an elected official. Tinubu’s public umbrage is in place and no matter the daft explanation being whispered that this position is as a result of his annoyance at a certain appointment, the fact that Mr Ibe has lost my confidence and in fact that of most Nigerians cannot be overemphasized.

This thing is not rocket science. The total deregulation of the sector would indeed lead to a permanent end to this
crisis. Government should go back to its regulatory role, privatizing the NNPC and allowing it run like a private concern. Let the price of fuel go up to N1000 per litre the forces of demand and supply will automatically regulate it.

Government should instead use all the funds it is spending on subsidy and equalization on providing transport infrastructure even if it means working in a PPP arrangement so that Nigerians would have a viable alternative to driving and this in itself would regulate the usage of fuel.

Take the über experience. Today I know many people who have parked their cars and use uber for its comfort and relative cheapness. If this can be translated to the rail and other means of transportation, then we would not have to contend with this joke of a Minister.

Sir Tinubu, you have my support on this matter. This person should be shown the way out. He should return to publishing his romance magazine for this is a job for serious people.
