TraderMoni: A politicised sound economic model –Analysts

Published

on

As Vice President Yemi Osinbajo continues distributing to petty traders the N10, 000 ‘TraderMoni’ from market to market across the country, having covered over 33 states at the last count, analysts have described the TraderMoni as a sound economic model being garbed in a political robe.

Speaking, Professor Gab Afagbu, an economics teacher at the University of Benin, and World Bank consultant, said that the pro-poor intervention scheme of the Federal Government is based on a time tested sound economic model which could catalyse economy growth if properly implemented.

However Prof. Afagbua expressed strong reservations over the implementation of the social investment programme, saying it must have to follow known economic principles to achieve a measurable result.

Sunday Telegraph learnt that over N8.09billion has already been paid to the TraderMoni beneficiaries while about N15.2billion has been paid to MarketMoni and FarmerMoni schemes where beneficiaries get N100,000 and N120,000 respectively.
