Train crash in Pakistan kills 6, injures 150

The problems facing the railway system in Pakistan came to the fore again following a train incident which claimed the lives six people and injured more than 150 people in the central Punjab region.

Reports say the incident involving the Karachi-bound train occurred when the passenger train named Awami Express crashed into a goods train which had stopped after running over a man crossing the railway track.

Following the incident, rescue officials were seen working around crumpled and overturned carriages in the darkness trying to rescue victims of the accident which occurred about 25km from the city of Multan.

“At least four people have been killed and scores others wounded,” said Nadir Chattha, local district administration official.
