Tribunal orders INEC to grant Buhari access to inspect poll materials

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been ordered to grant President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress (APC) access to inspect the materials used for February 23 presidential poll.

Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal located on the premises of the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal gave the order on Thursday.

Buhari and his party, the APC had through their lawyers, prayed in an ex parte motion filed before the tribunal, leave to inspect materials used for the elections.

They said they needed to inspect the materials in order to defend themselves in the case of a petition.

A similar request had been made by the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, and was granted on March 6 by the three-man panel of the tribunal led by Abdu Aboki.

Considering Buhari’s application on Thursday, the three-man panel permitted Buhari and the APC to inspect the materials and obtain the certified through copies of the documents from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

PDP and Atiku, have vowed to challenge the result of the presidential election which INEC announced Buhari as polling a total vote of 15,191,847 to defeat Atiku who scored 11,262,978 votes.
