The Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Umuahia, the Abia State capital, has affirmed the re-election of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu.

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) governorship candidate, Alex Otti had dragged Ikpeazu to the tribunal.

He had prayed it to annull fifteen out of the seventeen local government areas’ election results of the March 9, 2019, gubernatorial poll in the state.

In his petition, Otti had alleged that the respondents, Ikpeazu and his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP); indulged in excessive malpractice in those LGAs during the election.

But the three-man panel of the tribunal chaired by Justice A.L. Ogumoye, on Friday dismissed Otti’s petition.

According to the tribunal, the APGA governorship candidate was unable to prove the case of over-voting, non-compliance to the INEC election guideline and electoral act.
