A disturbing incident in Ibadan, on Thursday, has left two officers of the Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority (OYRTMA) severely injured.

Oyedepo Samuel and Waheed Quadri were attacked by tricycle riders and hoodlums while performing their duties.

According to Commissioner for Information Dotun Oyelade, the officers were ambushed while transporting a seized tricycle. “A good Samaritan intervened, rescuing the officers from the mob,” Oyelade said.

OYRTMA Chairman Major Adekoya Adesagba (retd.) condemned the attack, stating, “It’s unfortunate our officers, who work tirelessly to maintain order, are being attacked.” Seven suspects have been apprehended and arraigned at Magistrate District Court 1, Ibadan North East.

“The arrested suspects are in custody… and will face the full weight of the law,” Adesagba emphasized.

The suspects were granted bail but remanded at Agodi Prison due to unmet bail conditions. The case continues on November 17, 2024.
