Troops kill 15 ISWAP fighter in Borno, lose soldier

Troops of 242 Battalion on Thursday killed 15 members of the Islamic State in West African Province (ISWAP) at Jigalta Village, near Marari, Borno State.

Marari is 27 kilometres from Monguno, one of the communities frequently attacked by the terrorists since they launched their jihad war against the country in 2009.

The troops were supported by their colleagues from the Sector 2 Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) Chadian Defence in their onslaught against the terrorists.

However, one soldier was killed in the fight with the insurgents.

A statement issued by the Nigerian Army public relations unit said the criminals ambushed the troops at Jigalta Village and a fight ensued between the troops and the insurgents.

The statement read: “The criminals laid an ambush with five gun trucks and an unconfirmed number of insurgents.

“However, the gallant troops responsively countered the ambush and decimated the uncoordinated criminals.

“Resultantly, 15 of the Boko Haram criminals were neutralized while few of them escaped with severe gunshot wounds.
In addition, two Boko Haram Gun Trucks were destroyed while another four were captured.

“Also, four Dutshka Anti-Aircraft Guns, nine AK 47 Rifles and a sizeable cache of ammunition were captured by the gallant troops.

“Unfortunately, one soldier paid the supreme sacrifice during the crossfire that ensued while a Chadian soldier was also wounded in action.

“The Commander Sector 3 Operation Lafiya Dole/MNJTF, Major Gen. Abdulmalik Biu in the company of the Commander Sector 2 MNJTF (CDF), Col. Bokhit Ali, Commander Sector 3 Operation Lafiya Dole Artillery Brigade, Brig-Gen. Jamiu Jimoh and Commander 3 Military Intelligence Brigade Col. Abubakar Mohammed visited the jubilant troops at the location of the encounter. “
