Super Eagles defender William Troost-Ekong has dedicated his first ever goal for the Nigerian national side to his unborn baby boy.

The Bursaspor of Turkey star expressed his delight after scoring for the Super Eagles in their 1-1 draw with DR Congo at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port-Harcourt on Monday night.

Nigeria got ahead 15 minutes into the game when Troost-Ekong slotted in from a clever free-kick taken by Ogenyi Onazi, but the visitors equalised in the 78th minute from the penalty spot following a foul by Ola Aina on a Congolese opponent inside the box.

Troost-Ekong, who is currently expecting a baby, celebrated in style after scoring the goal, and took to Twitter after the game to thank Nigerians for their support.

“Happy with my first international goal. This one is for my boy. Thanks for all your support!,” he wrote on his verified Twitter handle.

The DR Congo friendly was part of the team’s preparation for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia and served as farewell to home fans before they depart from the shores of Nigeria.

The Super Eagles are also billed for a high profile international friendly against England at Wembley Stadium on Saturday, June 2 2018. They will later play against Czech Republic before finally jetting out to Russia for the World Cup finals.
