Trouble for embattled Temar as Brazilian congress mulls vote to sack him

Embattled President Michel Temer faces another battle to stay in office after the Brazilian congress pushed to vote on whether to remove him from power.

Temer who has been embroiled in bribery allegations leveled against him in May (allegations which he denies), now faces the latest hurdle in the battle for his political survival.

Reports say Temer would be suspended for six months and face trial at the Supreme Court where he could be removed permanently, if the congress secures enough votes to remove him from office.

A month ago, Temer was slammed with corruption charges by prosecutors who accused him of receiving a $150,000 bribe from the boss of a meatpacking company implicated in a corruption scandal.

Brazil’s Supreme Court, Prosecutor General Rodrigo Janot also received a filing against Temer for alleged obstruction of justice and membership of a criminal group.
