Embattled US President Donald Trump has for the umpteenth time demanded that he be provided with funds to build a wall at the US-Mexico border.

Facing Congress on Tuesday, Trump asked to be given the sum of $5.7 billion (4.5 billion pounds) this year to help build a wall on the U.S. border with Mexico.

He however stopped short of declaring a national emergency to pay for the wall with military funds.

The US President also added during a prime-time televised speech, that there was a growing security crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border with illegal immigrants and drugs flowing across the southern border which posed serious threat to American safety.

“How much more American blood will be shed before Congress does its job?” Trump said after recounting gruesome details of murders he said were committed by illegal immigrants.

Trump’s comments are coming a da after Democrats warned him not to circumvent Congress and divert already appropriated money towards building the U.S.-Mexico border.

The declaration was made by a Congressional delegation of Democrats touring a Border Patrol facility in New Mexico on Monday.
