Trump kicks against impeachment move, says inquiry launched by Democrats ‘a coup’

The President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, has kicked against the impeachment inquiry, describing the recent move launched by Democrats as ‘a coup’.

Trump whipped up rhetoric on Twitter on Wednesday over the impeachment inquiry, labelling it a “coup” designed to “take away the power of the people”.

“As I learn more and more each day, I am coming to the conclusion that what is taking place is not an impeachment, it is a COUP,” Trump tweeted late on Tuesday.

It is “intended to take away the Power of the People, their VOTE, their Freedoms, their Second Amendment, Religion, Military, Border Wall, and their God-given rights as a Citizen of The United States of America!” he wrote.

“The Greatest Witch Hunt in the history of our Country!” the 73-year-old leader posted.

Trump comments came after several of his staunch supporters used the “coup” line when defending Trump on Fox News.

The move to impeach Trump came after his envoy to Ukraine, Kurt Volker threw in the towel over a recent whistle-blower complaint.

The complaint publicly released from within the intelligence community on Thursday, described Volker as trying to “contain the damage” from efforts by Trump’s lawyer Rudy Giuliani to press Ukraine to investigate Democrats.

Volker, who had served in the position on a part-time, unpaid basis since 2017, had sought to help Ukraine’s government resolve its confrontation with Russia-sponsored separatists.

The whistle-blower complaint thus forced Speaker Nancy Pelosi to declare that that the United States House of Representatives would launch a formal impeachment inquiry against Trump.
