Trump says deal with Kim is 'in the making'

A day after revealing that he had agreed to meet the North Korean leader for face-to-face talks, US President Donald Trump has said a deal with Kim Jong-un is “very much in the making”.

“The deal with North Korea is very much in the making and will be, if completed, a very good one for the World. Time and place to be determined,” Trump said on Twitter on Saturday.

The meeting between both leaders which is the first between a sitting US president and a North Korean leader signals a potential breakthrough in nuclear tensions between Washington and Pyongyang.

The move by North Korea to give up its nuclear proliferation comes weeks after the US slammed Pyongyang with its ‘heaviest ever’ sanction according to Trump.

The US treasury department revealed at the time that the sanctions were measures – aimed at disrupting North Korean shipping companies, vessels and heighten pressure on its leader Kim.
