Trump soft pedals on immigration ban, set to take Iran off list

President of the United States of America, Donald Trump has soft pedaled on his immigration stance after he told the American Congress that he was open to immigration reform.

While addressing Congress in a speech that offered a more restrained tone than his election campaign and first month in the White House, Trump shifted from his harsh rhetoric on illegal immigration.

In his address to Congress, Trump emphasized his desire to focus on problems at home by boosting the U.S. economy with tax reform, a $1 trillion infrastructure effort and an overhaul of President Barack Obama’s signature healthcare law, known as Obamacare.

The tone of Trump’s speech got Democratic Senator Tom Carper talking as he said moments after the President’s address that, “the person who wrote this speech must not have written the inaugural address. That one was “dark” and this one was more uplifting.”

In a related development, Trump’s new immigration order will remove Iraq from the list of countries whose citizens face a temporary U.S. travel ban after pressure was mounted on the Pentagon and State Department.

Trump is expected to sign the new order on Wednesday after White House was urged to reconsider Iraq’s inclusion given its key role in fighting the Islamic State group.
