Trump'll not invoke executive privilege to block Comey's testimony --White House

White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders told reporters on Monday that US President Donald Trump will not invoke his executive privilege to block ex-FBI director James Comey’s testimony before Congress this week.

Sanders noted that Trump will not interfere in Comey’s much anticipated testimony in order to facilitate a swift and thorough examination of the facts before the Senate Intelligence Committee.

She said; “In order to facilitate a swift and thorough examination of the facts sought by the Senate Intelligence Committee, President Trump will not assert executive privilege regarding James Comey’s scheduled testimony.”

Recall that Trump fired Comey about three weeks ago in a move which according to him was to restore public trust.

Trump said Comey who had been leading an FBI investigation into allegations of Russian meddling in the 2016 US presidential election was no longer able to effectively lead the law-enforcement agency.

Comey’s sacking has raised dust and fuelled concerns about the integrity of the inquiry into Russia’s meddling and also renewed calls for an independent investigation into the matter.
