TUBE BOMB: UK increases terror threat to "critical" as ISIS claims attack

A tube bombing in the south-west of London which injured no less than 29 people has forced UK authorities to increase terror threat to “critical”- its highest level as police continue in the hunt for the suspect behind the attack.

Theresa May, the UK prime minister said the threat was now critical, meaning an attack is expected imminently, after a device was detonated at Parsons Green station in an attack which has been claimed by ISIS.

Mrs May said: “The public will see more armed police on the transport network and on our streets, providing extra protection.

“This is a proportionate and sensible step which will provide extra reassurance and protection while the investigation progresses.”

Police said some 1,000 armed officers would be seen across the country after military assistance was requested.

The unexpected explosion at the Parsons Green Underground station in the southwest of the capital, London, occurred yesterday inside a packed rush-hour commuter train with twenty-nine people thus far treated in hospitals, mostly for burns, following the attack.

The UK has witnessed a series of attacks this year, with the bombing of a concert in Manchester in May, a stabbing spree around the London Bridge area in June and a March attack in which a man drove a car into crowds on Westminster Bridge.
