Fans of Club Africain have shown the depth of their dedication towards the club by donating money to help relieve them from current financial troubles.

The Tunisian club, the second oldest in the North African country, have been deducted six points and handed a fine because of unpaid salaries to former players.

Supporters of the club donated more than US$450,000 (NGN163,125,000.00) in one day (Tuesday) as they battle to save the club.

A report on the BBC revealed that there was also donations from one blind fan who chose to forego the medicine he had been saving in order to help his beloved team.

The blind supporter handed over his savings during the 24-hour campaign, for which he was honoured with a signed shirt.

Other fans, both old and young – including children who arrived with their piggy banks, donated.

The Tunisian Football Federation (FTF) had set up a crisis management committee to save the team from further sanctions and also set up a bank account for fans to donate money to help clear the debt which has raised US$600,000 so far.

That total along with Tuesday’s contributions means the club has raised more than US$1m towards a total debt the federation puts at almost US$6m.
