Turkey extends state of emergency for another 3 months

Authorities in Turkey in a statement from Prime Minister Binali Yildirim’s office have approved the extension of a state of emergency for another three months.

The extension of the emergency rule approved by the Turkish parliament is coming almost a year after it was imposed following a failed coup which took place in the country last July.

The move is coming a days after more than 7,563 people including police, civil servants and academics were dismissed in Turkey after the government issued a new decree under the on-going state of emergency.

Thus far, Turkish authorities have sacked or suspended more than 150,000 officials, and arrested some 50,000 people from the military, police, judiciary, academia and other sectors.
