PDP crisis: Stubborn Sheriff won’t agree to out of court settlement

There is confusion in the Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as two factions have emerged within the party’s executive members, quarrelling over the role and tenure of the exco.

This is even as five chieftains of the party have also approached a Federal High Court in Abeokuta to restrain the Chief Adebayo Dayo-led faction from conducting or superintending the supervision of all the congresses slated to hold in the wards today across the state.

The 14-man exco has been split into two factions of five and nine members respectively.

One of the factions is led by the state party chairman, Bayo Dayo, and the Secretary, Semiu Sodipo, while the second faction is led by Deputy state chairman, Elder Sunday Soledolu.

According to the Dayo-led faction, they were constrained to pull out of the Exco because their roles had been hijacked by the five other members, whom they also accused of side-lining them in the running of the party.

State publicity secretary, Waliu Oladipupo while addressing newsmen on the issue, said that his group would not be part of the planned congress, which he said was illegal, adding, “Our tenure has expired on February 28, 2016, but with the pronouncement of the National Working Committee we are still functioning as the State Working Committee.

“However, we are not being allowed to function as members of the State Working Committee.”

Meanwhile, the five PDP chieftains who dragged the exco to court are seeking an order of the court directing the PDP national leadership to appoint state caretaker committee to conduct and supervise the congresses. Part of the reliefs sought by the claimants also included an order directing the claimants and independent observers to record live proceedings of the congresses, as well as an order for substituted service of court processes on the defendants.

The court has fixed hearing on the motion on notice for May 3.
