Two Faced: Being A Trump Supporter And A Buhari Wailer

trump and buhari

I seriously have problems with the President Muhammadu Buhari led Federal Government. He has shown over these years that either he never prepared to lead a plural society like Nigeria’s or that he never was prepared for governance, or both. I have looked at his style of governance also feel that he may have prepared to promote the sectional interest of a particular group.

Some of his apologists will defend him by saying that he has started and succeeded than any of his predecessors in advancing work on Enugu-Onitsha Expressway and the Second Niger Bridge. They will also beat the noisy sounds of fighting corruption. However, development without safety is not sustainable and counterproductive. A society where being an Igbo man in a country where my brothers played major roles in wresting powers from their British slavemasters, is dreadful. Where giving an appointment to an Igbo man becomes a result of consequence, a bone in the throat or worst still throwing the left overs to the dogs.

I remain disheartened by a continous bolstering of these trends and indices coming from Aso Rock. A government that crushes every known opposition voice and denies it in highfalutin “adesinadandic” Englishes.

But, I have more problems with the fact that in my group of fellow wailers, are people, who disgust President Buhari and his tribal bigotry and support President Donald Trump’s lame tweets and racially charged tantrums on his opposition. Bigotry, racism, sectionalism, nepotism wherever it is found is wicked, unconscionable, anti-development and anti-progress.

These group of Trump supporters and Buhari Wailers usually base their arguement on the fact that American economy has improved since the Presidency of the Trump dynasty. They argue that the Trump bigotry is just a creation of American liberal media. They believe the American conservative media on economic progress but disagree with their opponents on Trump’s visible support for racists amd white supremacists. What Irony? Painful indeed!

Apart from the ability to tweet real time and take his political enemies by himself and revolving door staff scheme of “You are Fired!”, Trump and Buhari share similarities. Past and present comments have shown both are averse to people who come from different cultural groups from them. They consistently were both in masked and bare attempts, shown disgust for people who do not share the same tribe or colour with them. From President Buhari considering people from his minority Fulani group as more competent and loyal to head the security aparatus of the country and other critical sectors to President Trump’s continous public show that black people, Latinos, Hispanics, Women have a gene of incompetence. Women, except Ivanka because she has a blood which colour is not red but Trump.

They also share similararities that they won elections through a national hypnosis skills. Both, presented themselves as the Messiah that have been long awaited. President Buhari rode on the horse of Change…promising immediate relief from PDP’s long hold on misgovernance and corruption. His attempt led to some Church leaders, to forget his antecedents, and give him full support. The Enugu adoration leader even delivered a life changing, uneasy to forget prophecy. President Trump, like his Nigerian compatroit, thronged the cities of America with his “MAGA”( for everything it means) hat, promising economic safety, protection of America’s economy from world’s economic wolves and parasites. He enjoyed the followership of those who felt it was time to save the country from the Democrats “O ka mma na ama” syndrome (better outside, while the economy at home continues to struggle). He enjoyed the followership of America’s evangelical class and including Nigerians who will never vote in any American election.

How would you then describe these people who love an cherish President Trump for keeping his campaign promise and forgive his cultural bigotry but continue to condemn President Buhari’s nepotism and religious intolerance? A group of people who run to write commentaries asking the American populace to accept President Trump’s statement that “racism” should be taken out of America’s National life but fail to accept President Buhari and his “public” comments to better unify the country. What a better name if not “Two faced?” Applying different sticks for same offenders. But, what do we know? They will certainly tell us we are not there in America. That there is no connection between President Trump’s “send them home” and “shit hole” comments and Charlottesville, El Paso, and the numerous gun violence in America but there is a connection between the conspiracy of silence of the Federal Government and the continous violence and killings tied to a particular group in Nigeria. Even a later Trump supporter and former Congress Speaker, Paul Ryan called his comments a “textbook definition of ‘racist’ comments” but his Nigerian supporters and Buhari’s wailer will say his “immigration policies” mean well for Americans when we know they are only targeted at people from countries he consider “rat infested.”

I have problems with President Buhari and I do with President Trump. Bigotry is bigotry. It is bad and must be condemned whether on Agbada or on black suit and red tie. Whether it promises economic progress or economic “cyclone!”

On Elzakzaky’s Release

We heard, yesterday, that a Kaduna High Court has granted bail to the leader of the “terrorist” group, IMN , El Zakzaky to seek medical attention abroad. Until my writing these thoughts, I haven’t seen him free but I hope this one will be obeyed. But , the funny thing is that if he is released, Nigeria will become a country that releases leaders of Terrorists. Funny people. What a Terrorism?!

On Sowore And his Estranged Friends!

Omoyele Sowore, former Presidential candidate of the AAC, well known student unionist, and Media investor is this week’s hero of democracy. In fact, of the “poor” masses. His traducers believe otherwise. The police say it is “treasonable felony”. What a pity?! It is painful. I truly believe that Mr Sowore support for the APC in 2015 was a drive to entrench democracy in Nigeria. His later fallout when he found the APC cannot guarantee his dream Nigeria means his drive is sincere. Thus, his push through AAC and now #RevolutionNow. Nevertheless, even if it was for a self serving, self seeking and drive for relevance motive, that shouldn’t permit us to keep quiet over injustice. Free Sowore now!
