Two feared dead, 6 injured as youths clash with soldiers in Adamawa

Suspected cultists kill five in Imo community

Two persons have been shot dead by soldiers with six others injured following clashes between youths and soldiers in Gurin in Fufore Local Government Area of Adamawa State on Thursday.

The Brigade Commander, 23 Brigade Yola, Brig. Gen. G. S. Mohammed who confirmed the clash said some of the unruly youths attempted to disarm some of his men, who reacted in self-defence in accordance with the rules of engagement.

But a resident who spoke with news men countered the claim saying over 2,000 youths took to the streets to protest against military harassment and selective enforcement of the ban on the use of motorcycles.

He noted that their impounded motorcycles were being used by the soldiers and their errand boys.

According to the source, the soldiers were said to have stormed the motor park area, beat up people randomly including one Sani Sakatare who was beaten to a state of stupor.

The act however resulted to the death of two persons by the soldiers.

The Permanent Secretary of the state Ministry of Information, Polycap Ayuba, while reacting to the development, said Governor Ahmadu Fintiri was concerned about the ban and was reviewing the security situation in the state before taking necessary actions.
