Two new Ebola deaths, 7 more cases confirmed by DRC health ministry

The spokeswoman for the health ministry of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) Jessica Ilunga has confirmed two new deaths and seven fresh cases following the outbreak of the dreaded Ebola virus.

According to Ilunga, one of the deaths occurred in the village of Bikoro, where the outbreak was first detected, when a nurse gave up the ghost due to the virus.

The other was recorded in the provincial capital of Mbandaka, according to a daily bulletin.

The seven new confirmed cases were registered in Bikoro, the ministry said. The outbreak is believed to have killed at least 27 people so far.

The newly confirmed cases comes days after health officials in the DRC began to contain the outbreak of the deadly virus with a vaccination campaign.

Reports say no less than 4,000 doses of vaccine were shipped on Saturday to the city of Mbandaka, which registered its first case of the disease last week.
