The Flying Eagles of Nigeria kicked off their 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup campaign with a deserved 4-0 victory over Qatar on Friday.

The Nigerian lads, who have reached the final of the competition twice, are gunning for their first ever title in the Poland tournament.

The young Eagles dominated the game and got ahead in the 12th minute from a Maxwell Effiom goal before Okechukwu Offia doubled their lead in the 24th minute.

Nigeria continued to push their opponents hard in the second half, and bagged two more goals – thanks to Tom Dele-Bashiru and Aliu Salawudeen – to seal the big win.

The two goals scored in the first half were assisted by captain Ikouwem Udoh Utin.

As it stands, Nigeria are sitting atop the Group D with a four-goal advantage and three points, at least until the other game of the group is played later on Friday.

The Flying Eagles, who are making their 12th appearance in the competition, will face USA in their next game on Monday, 27th of May, before facing Ukraine in their final group game.
