U-23 Eagles beat US club 1-0 after rain delay

Nigeria’s U-23 Eagles defeated United Soccer League club Charleston Battery 1-0 on Sunday as part of preparations for the 2016 Rio Olympics billed for next month in Brazil.

According to Team’s media officer, Timi Ebikagboro, the game lived up to the expectation with Stanley Amuze scoring the only goal of the match in the 33rd minutes.

The match was earlier scheduled for 8pm local time Saturday, which was 1am Nigerian time on Sunday.
Due to a heavy rainfall which resulted to a waterlogged pitch, the match was later was rescheduled for Sunday evening.

The Coach Samson Siasia side have been training in Atlanta in readiness for the Rio Olympics next month, are also scheduled to face another Rio-bound team Honduras before they depart the United States of America on July 29.

Nigeria defeated Honduras 3-1 at the recent Suwon International Tournament, which also featured hosts South Korea and Denmark.
