UAE threatens to impose economic sanctions against Qatar as diplomatic row deepens

The diplomatic row between the Gulf Cooperation Council members and Qatar is boiling over after the United Arab Emirates (UAE) threatened to impose economic sanctions against Doha.

According to UAE’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Anwar Gargash, economic embargo could be imposed against Qatar while Bahrain said “any options” were on the table as the crisis in the Gulf showed no signs of abating on Thursday.

The diplomatic row between Gulf Cooperation Council members and Qatar has been brewing in the last four days following a hacking dispute which revealed leaks and comments against member countries of the Gulf of Arab attributed to Qatar’s emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.

The comments which came to the open after the hack has set Qatar against the Gulf’s Arab countries, forcing Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, UAE and Egypt to cut ties with the oil rich country.

The Gulf crisis is showing no signs of abating as it continues to escalate despite efforts by US and Kuwait to calm rising tensions among GCC member states.
